I love how this goes against not just fanon, but against general BDSM tropes as well. Fanon Rodney very often needs sex to function better, and here he's being torn away from something important for a foursome. He's complaining and saying he doesn't have time, etc. and of course most fics would end up with him grateful to John for making him go down, and he'd go off on his merry way. In most BDSM stories, whether fanfic or original, the dom knows everything and never makes a mistake. So if John thinks Rodney needs to be taken down, then regardless of Rodney's protesting, it will turn out that John's right.

Of course that's exactly what doesn't happen here, and that's what makes it so awesome and elevates it above being just another run-of-the-mill PWP.
