Oh, wow, I really did not expect anyone to pick this and I'm so happy with what you've done with it!
I love the idea of writing a longer remix from a drabble because you can go so far with things that are only hinted at in the original. I wrote that dribble just for the tone of it and the shape of the words on the screen, and I never really worked out for myself the story that went around it, to get them there. I love the way you've made it make sense by, well, having it not make sense. I mean the way you have Sam seeing and believing two things at once. There's so much love in this, but it's twisted, the way the Ring distorts everything. That's why lines like "they could share (it), and love" work so well.
Another one of my favorite lines in this is "Sam was strong still, like an ox, a fool maybe, but a fool with shoulders wide enough to carry them both." It sounds just right, for Sam to think of himself that way. And it's like you say in your summary, the Ring tempts him according to his own nature, so it doesn't give him visions of power, just makes him think that he can save Frodo, and that's what (almost) wins him over.
Thank you so much for this. It is dark and depressing in just the right way to make me very happy. :D
