I have been locked away from the world & lj and so it was only when I skipped to have a read of your lj that I saw there was fic. *facepalm* I am made of fail, I am so sorry it's taken me this long.
The fic, though, oh my goodness, the fic is amazing. You know how much I love Atia, right? She's my no. 1, my all-time favourite in Rome, and you capture her perfectly here. I love her fierce protectiveness of Octavia, even though she's only a disappointing daughter - but her daughter, nonetheless, and Atia is so damned possessive of everything that is hers.
“By other people,” Octavia replied, but her hand remained in Atia’s, and her fingers held on with considerable strength.
This just warmed me through and through. I think that Octavia is one of those strange things - someone so completely different to her parents, but still able to understand and forgive them nonetheless.
The corners of Octavia’s mouth twitched, and only when her fingertips traced something wet on Atia’s face did Atia realise that one of them must have started to cry. She preferred to think it had been Octavia.
