I haven't yet read the original story, but this is...lovely, remarkable, wonderful. I feel like Atia is a hard character to capture in all her complexity; in the hands of a less skilled author, it's easy for her to become cartoonish, exaggerated. This has a remarkably light hand and encapsulates the difficulties and depth of family bonds really beautifully.
