On the one hand, the fact he was engaged in conversation with an anthropomorphic representation of Death seemed to point at the afterlife as being much more like traditional conceptions than Percy had ever thought; on the other hand, Death was also a stranger being by far than he would've expected, and it seemed they even had an acquaintance in common, so perhaps it would all work out fine.
