Oh, I like this. It feels nicely remixy, with not only the POV flip, but also the different take on Mal's motivation. It's very Mal - wanting something and not just talking himself out of it, but also getting all dog in the manger-ish - so YAY for the ending, and letting Simon down gently (and the last scene with River is just love).

...apart from that they are all flowers, I do not recognize your planet names (but I am made happy that Wash comes from Heliotrope for the pun on both devotion and an eye-watering colour).
