He's always been an excellent liar.

Gah. Such a simple yet powerful statement.

it hits Obi-Wan like a fist clenching in his chest that as much as he wants to think of it as "the baby," it is Anakin's child that he holds in his arms.

Yeah, I think Obi-Wan was dealing with pretty heavy issues, there, understandably. Even having been aware, on some level, of Anakin's involvement with Padme, to have the evidence, as such, in the form of one of their children? You can imagine that revelation would have been like getting hit by a mack truck.

He might as well complete Anakin's task of erasing the existence of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Such a sad finality to this.

It is perversely a relief to hear someone else agree that he failed Anakin in such a matter-of-fact voice. If it is speakable, it is bearable.

Great observation, here. Poor Obi-Wan.

It is shaping Luke as he grows, as his aunt and uncle are shaping him, making him into something entirely different than what the Temple would have made of him.

An interesting -- and I think truthful -- way to look at the differences in Luke's upbringing from that of nearly every other 'Jedi-in-the-making' prior to him.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable, sad, and wistful read, gorgeously written. You did a fantastic job worthy of the original author's work.
