It took two months for John to leave the infirmary on unsteady legs; Rodney walked him to his room and decided not to leave. John's nothing like Pegasus; he takes only what he's willing to give, and he never learned how to give less than everything. Rodney was too old to fall in love like this decades ago; he feels a lot younger now.

This is such a beautiful way of putting this, wistful and worrying and resigned and hopeful all rolled into one. I really like your Rodney, because you can tell in the story that he's been changed by the events, but at the same time, he's himself. It makes me think of one of my other favorite sci fi series--Dune... here, Rodney's become a Pegasus creature, in the way that Paul is a 'desert creature...' but Rodney's smart enough to keep hold of some of himself during that process.

Reading the original story, it never even occurred to me that John might wear it--but now it seems so obvious! --And now you've slain me, because it's Rodney in the golden hue and he's gone and bought his own colors for John.

It won't take long, not when John's like this, intense and focused, driving Rodney as hard as he's driving himself; John gives it up during sex the way he flies a jumper, fights a war, and falls in love.

Lines like this make me yearn to watch him fall! Also:

John yawns again, rolling over in a lazy stretch of long limbs, eyes as green as the fabric twisted beneath them. "I think you already have."

Oh, oh YES. I can see this image, and I'm no artist but I wish I were because that NEEDS to be illustrated. Fabulous work. I think my favorite part of this story is the fact that there was this horrible illness but they survived--by which I mean, the story doesn't dwell on it, and neither do they, but it sets such a vivid scene for the story.
