I will have to unload some icons, but I'll just wait and see who else makes awesome ones --
You're right that there are much worse things than physical miscasting. Wolveine was too tall, and Famke Janssen doesn't really look like Jean should, but I loved them both; I'm not complaining. I sort of enjoyed Alba!Sue in the second movie, but Berry in anything hero-like is unfortunate. Her Storm was such dead weight, it depressed me!
This icon, by the way, ties into my favorite story from the New York Comicon I went to last week -- Jeremy Haun, the artist for this issue (Captain America/Iron Man casualties of war) had the inked pages out on display and, though I was generally way too shy to talk to creators, my friend almost bodily dragged me over there, because she knew I had this panel as an icon. Haun then proceeded to tell us about how much fun he and Chris Gage had working on the issue, how they went back and forth looking for examples from Steve and Tony's friendship to use in the comic. He then proceeded to give us a little lesson on the true meaning of friendship, based on Tony and Steve -- it was kind of hokey, but also, awesome. And considering that my friend and I RP Steve/Tony -- and that my shipping of them is based largely on that issue -- there was SO MUCH more significance to the conversation than he realized!
My contribution to the conversation was to point at this panel and say that I love how you can tell they are both smiling, even though it's so subtle. And then I giggled like a fangirl.
