I'm so glad you enjoyed it, even though it's a little disturbing! For what it's worth, I think the weird power games are there in the original story, too. And my sense is that Rodney's grooving on that, in a certain way, but also doesn't actually want to fuck things up; he's comfortable playing these weird power games with John as long as John is fundamentally on-board and has agency and can fuck with him right back. That's what I hoped the ending of the story would convey. *g*
