Wow. Lorna has power, herself, but she is not that volcano, and she knows it. I love the idea of the X-Men as people living under that volcano, defending their home, fighting and fighting, and Lorna's impossible attempts at escaping that life. Rachel is just as scary (and scared) here as in the original, but I enjoyed seeing her from this viewpoint, the concerned adult who nonetheless is a little afraid, and not without reason. The undercurrents (or I should say tectonic movements) of this fic are deeply scary, and the relative ordinariness of Lorna reading her book, talking to Rachel, while Scott and Jean mask their argument with the radio, just makes the volcano loom taller.
